Unseen passage Q2A & B

Read the extract and complete the activities that follows :

As far as the technical study of body language goes perhaps the most influential pre-twentieth-century work was Charles Darwin's The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals' published in 1872. This spawned the modern studies of facial expressions and body language and many of Darwin's ideas and observations have since been validated by modern researchers around the world. Since that time, researchers have noted and recorded almost one million non-verbal cues and signals. Albert Mehrabian found that the total impact of a message is about 7 per cent verbal (words only) and 38 per cent vocal (including tone of voice, inflection and other sounds)and 55 per cent non-verbal. Professor Birdwhistell made some similar estimates of the amount of non-verbal communication that takes place amongst humans. He estimated that the average person actually speaks words for a total of about ten or eleven minutes a day and that the average sentence takes only about 2.5 seconds. Like Mehrabian, he found that the verbal component of a face-to face conversation is less than 35 per cent and that over 65 per cent of communication is done non-verbally.

Most researchers generally agree that the verbal channel is used primarily for conveying information, while the non-verbal channel is used for negotiating interpersonal attitudes and in some cases is used as a substitute for verbal messages. For example, a woman can give a man a "look to kil!': convey a very clean message to him without opening her mouth.

Regardless of culture, words and movements occur together with such predictability that Birdwhistell says that a well-trained person should be able to tell what movement a man is making by listening to his voice. In like manner, Birdwhistell learned how to tell what language a person was speaking, simply by watching his gestures.

Many people find difficulty in accepting that humans are still biologically animals. Homo sapiens is a species of primate a hair-less ape that has learned to walk on two limbs and has a clever, advanced brain. Like any other species, we are dominated by biological rules that control our actions, reactions, body language and gestures. The fascinating thing is that the human animal is rarely aware of his postures, movements and gestures that can tell one study while his voice may be telling another.

Speech on Constitutional Day

 ๐Ÿ’ซ *Speech Writing*๐Ÿ’ซ

*The Indian Constitution Day* ๐Ÿ–‹️✒️๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“˜

*26th November*

Exuberant good morning to everyone. Honourable chairperson, the Principal of our college ,Mr/Mrs......., respected teachers and my dear friends. We celebrate many days to commemorate the great personalities and their work.Likewise,we also commemorate 26th November as *The Indian Constitution Day*.Our honourable Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi declared this day in the year 2015 because that year was the year of 125th birth anniversary of Bharatratna Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Friends, can you tell why it is  celebrated on 26th November?Yes, because the Constitution Assembly /Committee adopted the constitution on 26th November 1949 which was come into force/effect on 26th January 1950.

Well,we have to follow the traffic rules. Why?yes, because to avoid the mishaps. Our schools and colleges have certain rules  regarding  uniforms, time tables  and so on.Why? because such rules are needed for disciplinary and smooth working of our schools and colleges.Likewise, Constitution is needed for disciplinary adminstration of the nation.

    *What is constitution*?

Well, constitution is a set of rules and regulations which is essential for disciplinary adminstration of the government. It is the framework, document or a book that guides the government to work smoothly.

Friends, we all know the history of Indian Independence. When we were ruled by the Britishers, they appealed us to draft our own constitution. And  in response to their appeal ,the work of constitution was begun. The Constitution

Committee was formed whose president was Dr.Rajendra Prasad and in which *Constitution Drafting Committee* was formed whose president was Bharatratna Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar.

There were seven members in this *Drafting  Committee*, named Alladi Krishnaswami Ayyar, N.Gopalswami, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar, K.M.Munshi , Mohammad Saadulla, B.L .Mitter and D.P. Khaitan. But as a president of Drafting Committee ,Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar contributed the Lion's share in drafting our constitution. That's why he is called an architect of the Indian Constitution. He studied the constitutions of many countries such as America,Japan, Russia,France and England. He took the essence from them. After spending a long period  of 2 years,11 months and 17days,our constitution was ready.

Friends, our constitution is an amalgamation of the constitutions of the world. It is the world's largest constitution that contains 465 articles,12 schedules,122 amendments and 146385 English words. It is the blend of rigidity and flexibility. It is in both forms, written like America and unwritten like England. The original constitution (1950)is preserved in *helium filled case* at the parliament house in New Delhi.

Well, our constitution is the sole backbone of the country that has kept the country together. Our constitution declares India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic assuring its citizens the principles like *Liberty, Equality, Fraternity and Justice.* There is equaity before law.It means every citizen of India is equal before the law whether he/she is rich or poor ,city dweller or village dweller. Our constitution has given us fundamental rights such as right to vote, right to educate, right to freedom of expressing our thoughts, freedom to speak, right against exploitation, freedom of religion and so on.

Friends, we are given such rights as well as our constitution has given us some duties and responsibilities. *Rights and duties* are the two sides of the same coin. When we fight for our rights,we should also be aware of our duties and responsibilities. We all know that the preamble of the constitution is given on the first page of the text books of all  the standards in which the first sentence is *WE, THE  PEOPLE  OF INDIA.......* In this  sentence the word *WE* denotes the *unity and integrity*.It means we all Indians should live unitedly , work unitedly for the betterment of our motherland. We should be proud of our constitution. Our state government is executing the drive *My Constitution,My Pride ( เคฎाเคे เคธंเคตिเคงाเคจ,เคฎाเคा เค…เคญिเคฎाเคจ.*)  from 23-11-2021 to 26-1-2021.In the name of this campaign many competitions  are being taken such as poster making , digital poster making competition ,elocution competition, debate, drawing competition, board writing competition ,essay writing competition and so on.Many students and even many  teachers are participating in it.Friends, what's the purpose behind such drive?Yes, the purpose of our government behind it  is to create the pride among us about our constitution. It also aims at creating awareness about our constitution so that we should understand  the importance of the constitution .And why is it implementing through schools? Yes, because we can create the awareness about our constitution among the society by telling  its importance .

Dear friends,I hope, you understood very well what I said. So, be the ideal citizens of our nation and serve our motherland by following the  guidelines of our constitution.

I conclude my speech by paying my tribute to Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar .
